How to Split an ISO File

The popular ISO virtual imaging file format allows users to backup, create and play digital versions of their physical mediums--like CDs and DVDs. But problems may arise when trying to transport ISO files from one computer to another--ISO files are notoriously large and may not always fit perfectly on CDs and DVDS. But with the right software, you can split your ISO files, and make them ready for transport.

Download a copy of the file archiving utility, WinRAR. Save the file to your desktop, and then install it.

    • 4

Keep the archive format set to its default "RAR" setting, but adjust the compression to your liking.

Click "OK" to begin splitting the files into chunks that will fit on your CDs or DVDs--the split files will appear in the same folder as the original file.
