How to Run a Cleaning Service Franchise
Running a cleaning service franchise has many advantages over other business formats: low overhead (if run from a home); proven systems from the fanchisor; and a flexible schedule. The key to success lies in the ability of the franchisee to work hard.
We spoke with and Kevin Durella of Coverall Health Based Cleaning Systems to learn the secrets to running a successful cleaning service franchise.

1
Attend the necessary cleaning service classes. Franchisors want their members to follow the same procedures from answering the phone to dusting knick-knacks. Just as anyone would expect the same experience when entering a McDonald's whether in Manhattan or Los Angeles.
-
2
Concentrate on customer satisfaction by rolling up your sleeves and joining the crew. Many franchisees have plans of sitting at home and collecting money while their employees are out doing the work--this is a recipe for failure. Maintain a constant eye on quality and to communicate directly with the customer. Too often, a new business owner finds out that a customer is not satisfied after the account has been canceled.

3
Hire a lawyer and a CPA (certified public accountant) to help with the legal and financial structure of the business. Both are necessary, even for a small franchise. There are too many legal and financial issues that a small cleaning business owner is responsible to keep track of. Professionals are needed to help make sure the shop is being run properly.

Tips & Warnings
Follow the recommendations of the franchise company. The systems and procedures that have been developed are tested for success, and ultimately, that is what a franchisee is paying for. Take advantage of ongoing training from the franchisor. A key factor that separates a cleaning franchisee from an independent cleaning contractor is tapping into the support and knowledge base of the parent company.
