Instructions

    • 1

Choose the vase or container that you wish to use. Use a contrasting colored vase such as white or black to help bring out the bright bold colors of the flowers. You can use any type of containers, not just flower vases: Chinese takeout boxes, old coffee cans or glass soda bottles all work well and add a fun touch to the arrangement.

    • 2

Fill your vase or container about half full with water. If using an opaque container consider putting a piece of floral foam in the bottom. Glass stones can be added to clear containers if desired. When using floral foam be sure to soak it thoroughly before putting into the container.

    • 3

Cut your flowers to the correct height for the vase or container you are using. Cut the stems at a 45-degree angle; cut under running water to keep the flowers fresh. After cutting dip the cut end of the stem into boiling water for about 20 seconds then place in a container of cool water for several hours before arranging. This keep the flowers from wilting and helps them last longer in the arrangement.

    • 4

Wrap floral wire around the stems of the flowers if they are weak. Start right under the flower and wrap downward.

    • 5

Place your flowers in the vase or container. If using a tall vase, first make a bouquet of the flowers in your hand and adjust the height as needed to fit in the vase; keep taller flowers in the center of the bouquet. Place the bouquet into the vase. If using opaque shorter containers, cut the stems to the right height, put a piece of floral foam in the bottom of the container and insert one flower stem at a time into the foam. Keep the flowers close together for a full arrangement. Add more water to your vase or container.

    • 6

Change the water every few days to keep it fresh and help the flowers last longer. Gerberas will last about seven to 10 days in an arrangement.
