How to Convert MPEG-4 to DivX
MPEG-4 video files are compressed files that people commonly use in online video sharing and on portable media devices. DivX is a fairly new form of compression that has the ability to compress files up to 10 times smaller than other types of compression, while maintaining a DVD level of video quality. The DivX compression is compatible with MPEG-4s, but DivX compressed files save as AVI files. To compress an MPEG-4 with DivX technology, you can convert the MPEG-4 with DivX compression software.

1
Download the YASA Video Converter. Upon downloading, a setup icon will appear. Double-click on the icon to run the setup. YASA has installation screens that will walk you through the process of installing the YASA Video Converter onto your computer.

2
Add the MPEG-4 file to the converter. When you click on the button to add a file, which has a picture on it that looks like the tip of a wand over a crooked yellow plus sign, a window will open. Browse for the MPEG-4 and upload it to the program by clicking "Open." The name of the file will appear in the YASA screen.

3
Select DivX as your output format. Available output formats are listed in the "Output Profiles" drop-down list. The DivX selection is listed as "DivX Movie (*.avi)." The file will use DivX compression and save as an AVI.
-
4
Type a name for the DivX AVI file. You can enter the file name next to "Output Video File." If you would like to designate a folder where the file should save, click on the "Go to folder" button, browse for the folder of your choice, and click "OK." If you do not select a folder, the DivX AVI file will save into the same folder in which the MPEG-4 file is located.
-
5
Begin the file conversion. The button that starts the conversion process in YASA has an image on it with a white, upside down triangle at the top and a small green triangle below it, pointing toward the right. It looks somewhat like a funnel. When you hover over the button, it will show that it is the button to convert. You can monitor the progress in YASA, and you will receive a message on your computer screen when the conversion is complete. The DivX copy of the file will now be available in the folder you chose for output.
