Prescription Necessary for Xanax.

Xanax, also known as alprazolam, is a prescription anxiety medication used to treat panic attacks, short-term anxiety symptoms and anxiety associated with depression. Because of its fast-acting nature, Xanax is also used illegally as a recreational drug. It is not legal to obtain Xanax from anyone except for a doctor, who may give you a sample or write you a prescription for it. Even if you have obtained a prescription for Xanax, it is still considered to be a controlled substance by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and you are limited to only a specific amount of pills per month as mandated by your prescription.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consult your doctor. Most doctors will not prescribe Xanax unless you have had a psychiatric evaluation. Your doctor will recommend you to a psychiatrist.

  2. Step 2

Get a prescription. After seeing a psychiatrist, who will determine that you suffer from anxiety problems to give you a prescription for Xanax, she may give you a few samples to see if Xanax is right for you. If you feel comfortable with the medication, she may prescribe a longer-term dose of Xanax, which may be in a time-release form that is to be taken in the morning or fast-acting to treat anxiety attacks directly.

  3. Step 3

Go to the drugstore. Your pharmacist will fill your prescription. If you have insurance, your Xanax prescription should be covered at least partially by your health insurance.

  4. Step 4

Order Xanax online. If you are unable to locate a drugstore or prefer to order medication online, you can fax or mail your prescription to an online pharmacy, which will mail you your prescription. Use online resources with caution, as dealing with controlled substances by mail may result in you not receiving your prescription on time, or at all.

  5. Step 5

Refill your prescription. Your doctor will have written on your prescription if any refills will be made available to you. The amount of refills should be listed on the label of your bottle. Because Xanax is a controlled substance, your pharmacy may have rules as to how much time as passed before you are able to refill your prescription. Speak with your pharmacy for their particular policy on controlled substances.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not use Xanax if it has not been prescribed to you.
  • It is illegal to sell or purchase Xanax from someone who is not a doctor or pharmacist.
