How to Remove Mold From Wood Window Frames

Save

One of the main causes of mold is excess moisture. Rain, dew and snow can seep through cracks or poor sealant in windows, thus causing mold around the window frames. Mold can be harmful if it is in the air. This is especially true for children with developing lungs. In addition, adults with health problems may have more difficult time breathing. It is important to remove the mold spores as soon as they begin to appear.

Things You'll Need

  • Mold remover Sponge Cloth

The Steps

  • Spray around the wood window frame with the mold remover. These include but are not limited to Lysol All-Purpose Cleaner with Bleach and Mold Armor. Other products are usable as well.

  • Saturate the entire frame. Allow the mold remover to soak into the wood for about 20 minutes.

  • Dampen the sponge with hot water. Wipe down the window frame. Start rubbing at the edges, working toward the inside near the window. Scrub around the wood frame. Dip and wring out the sponge as required.

  • Dry the frame with cloth. Remove all moisture. This will prevent the mold from returning.

Tips & Warnings

  • Obtain a product with mold cleaning properties. In addition, read all labels and warnings for safeness on wood and other vital information. If some mold remains, go over steps 1 to 3. Accomplish this before drying the wood window frame. To prevent mold from returning, replace or reseal the windows. This will assist in keeping excess rain or dampness out.
