Keeping nail polish fresh looking is important to a lot of people. Once it gets chipped, it is in need of a change. There are a variety of colors to choose from, and some women prefer to change their polish color themselves, rather than going to a salon.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Non-acetone nail polish remover Cotton balls Soap Water Bottle of nail polish in your choice of color Clear coat nail polish
  1. Step 1

Saturate a cotton ball with nail polish remover and remove the old nail polish from your fingernails before attempting to apply fresh polish. Remove old polish regardless of whether you are applying a different color or the same color. Make sure that the cotton ball is not too saturated; otherwise the remover will drip all over your fingers.

  2. Step 2

Make sure that all the old polish has been removed before you begin applying the new polish. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water once you have removed the old polish to ensure that all the remover is washed off.

  3. Step 3

Dry your hands before applying new polish. Roll the polish bottle in between your palms instead of shaking the bottle, to mix the color. Shaking the bottle could result in the bottle breaking; rolling it between your palms for about a minute will mix the polish well enough.

  4. Step 4

Open the bottle and brush the excess polish off the applicator. Begin at the nail bed and continue to the tip of the nail, using long, even strokes to apply the polish. Polish your nails in two halves, to ensure an even coating. Begin on one side of the nail, then dip the brush again and continue on the other half.

  5. Step 5

Allow the polish to dry thoroughly. You will probably have to apply two coats to achieve the desired coverage. Allow the second coat to dry. Then, following the same method, apply the clear coat to nails. Allow the clear coat to dry thoroughly, as well.
