If you are buying or selling of real estate, conducting a survey or planning landscaping projects you'll need accurate calculations of a parcel of land or a lot. Although there are irregularly shaped lots that require more complicated calculations, by far the most common lots are rectangular shape. Follow the steps below to calculate the area of a simple rectangle-shaped lot. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
-
-
1
Measure the length of one side of the lot in feet. We'll call this value "x".
-
2
Obtain the length of the side that forms a 90-degree angle with side "x" in feet. We'll call this value "y."
-
-
3
Substitute the values for "x" and "y" into the following equation:
x * y = A -
4
Perform the calculation of the equation, the resulting value is "A," which equals the area of the lot in square feet.
-
5
Divide the value for "A" by the number 43,560 in order to calculate the lot area in acres.
