Instructions

    • 1

Create a waiting room that is inviting by separating the check-in from the seating area. On the left-hand side, set up the computers and telephones needed to schedule appointments and check patients in.

    • 2

On the right, set up between eight and 12 comfortable, cushioned chairs.

    • 3

Place a flat-screen TV on the wall farthest from the chairs. This will give patients something else to concentrate on instead of their appointment.

    • 4

Place a coffee table in the center of the room, between the chairs. Display magazines, brochures and children's books to provide patients with something to read as a distraction.

    • 5

Install a door between the waiting area and the exam rooms.

    • 6

On the exam side of the door, place exam rooms on the right-hand side. On the left-hand side, place an additional reception area with computers and phones.

    • 7

At the end of the exam room hallway, place surgery-equipped exam rooms. The farther these are from the waiting room, the better.
