A PlayStation Portable, also known as a PSP, is a hand-held multimedia device from Sony. The PSP allows users to listen to music, watch videos, access the Internet and play games. With any type of electronic device, there is always potential for any one of the many internal components to get damaged or need replacement. Instead of having a costly repair done by a "so-called" professional, users can learn to disassemble their PSP themselves to complete repairs and diagnose problems.

Instructions

    • 1

Take out the battery pack from the back of the PSP. Locate and remove the plastic covering from the left side of the back of the PSP to expose the battery. Once the battery pack is lifted free, there will be four screws in total, one at each corner that will need to be removed.

    • 2

Remove the screw from the top and bottom right corners of the back of the PSP. Additionally, look at the bottom of the device and remove the single screw that is present there. After these three screws are removed, the front faceplate that borders the LCD screen can be removed.

    • 3

Lift up and remove the rubber strip at the bottom of the LCD screen that holds the screen in place. If you follow the strip to where it connects to the PSP's body, there will be a small plastic tab that needs to be lifted up that holds it down.

    • 4

Separate the LCD screen from the PSP by gently lifting up out of its allotted slot. Make sure you do not pull up too hard or you could risk damaging the two wires that lead away from the back of the screen. Carefully, set the screen aside and follow the two wires back to their bases and just as you did in Step 3, lift up on the small plastic tabs that hold the wires in place.

    • 5

Remove the silver metal plate that covers the PSP's motherboard. To do this, simply unscrew the screws that hold the metal plate in place. These screws are located at each corner of the protective covering. Once the metal plate is removed, you will be able to lift the motherboard free, which is the final component.
