Step 1
La Jolla CoveLa Jolla Cove is located at a cul-de-sac off Coast Blvd. Because the way the cove sits the ocean is calmer. Turn on Prospect and follow the signs to La Jolla Cove. There is free parking along the cliffs, although parking may be hard to find. Go to the edge of the wall and look down to see the cove because of it's unique shape, you can't miss it.
-
Step 2
La Jolla Cove SnorklingBecause the cove sits towards the north the ocean is calmer. It gives you a perfect opportunity to snorkel and swim. You can rent snorkeling gear at a near by shop or bring your own. If you just have a mask that will work, too. Just hold your breath while you dive down into the water to look at the orange Garibaldi fish that will be in the water. You may also spot a leopard shark, rock fish or a bat ray. This is a protected area and you are not allowed to capture or take any fish, but are welcome to look at them.
-
Step 3
Facing the cove to the right is The Cave Store, you can walk to it and go inside the store and walk down the 144 steps to the sea cave called Sunny Jim's cave.
-
Step 4
You can also rent a Kayak to see Sunny Jim's cave. You can also see 6 other caves made from sandstone, the cove and marine life as you paddle in the ocean. It is safe enough for 6 years old to go.
-
Step 5
ConcertAbove the cove is Scripps Park, a grassy space for picnics. You can walk over to the cliffs and find a spot to walk down and see the marine life hiding in the rocks or sit in the park. On the weekends during the summer they have concerts in the park.

on 7/20/2009 I love La Jolla! It's been many years since I've been there, but I will never forget seeing a dolphin and the beautiful Garabaldi fish. It was one of the loveliest days I ever had.
