By reading this article you will learn how to effortlessly throw a "green" dinner party.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • the Internet
  • Menu (food & beverages)
  • Decorations
  • Party Favors
  1. Step 1

    Send invitations via the Internet.

Sending electronic invites saves a tree! Invite your friends with a cute, electronic invitation from Evite.com or send a message via Facebook or other social networking site.

  2. Step 2

    Plan a sustainable menu.

Serve local, organic foods from farmers' markets and co-ops. Offer to pour beverages into glasses rather than using single-serve bottles. Also, use real dishes and cloth napkins instead of disposable paper goods.

  3. Step 3

Decorate with the Earth in mind.

Using natural fibers and materials, decorate your table with earthy browns, greens, and blues. Create unique place cards by writing guests' names on leaves or smooth rocks and create a center piece of flowers and soy candles, which are better for the Earth than traditional candles.

  4. Step 4

Send guests home with a little something.

Thank your friends for attending by sending them home with a party favor like fair-trade chocolate, a soy candle, or a packet of flower seeds that will remind them to continue green living!

Tips & Warnings
  • Washing dishes in an energy-efficient dishwater saves more water than washing by hand!
  • Ask a local farmer or grocer what foods are most in-season in your area; you'll find the freshest, most sustainable ingredients that way.
