Putting On Contact Lenses Can be an Anxiety Filled Process
Putting On Contact Lenses Can be an Anxiety Filled Process

If a single impurity gets in between your eyes and the contact lenses, the day can quickly turn into an extended torture session, especially if you have sensitive eyes like I do. I will tell you how I make sure that my contacts are perfectly clean before they get into my eyes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • paper towels
  • contacts solution
  • mirror
  • light
  1. Step 1

Gather up the supplies listed in the requirements. Get in a relaxed state of mind and do not rush through the process. In time you will be able to do it faster and faster.

  2. Step 2

Wash your hands thoroughly, shake them to dry and then wipe them completely dry with paper towels. Make sure you have a bunch of paper towels ready to repeat the process later if needed. The reason I use paper towels is because they leave the least residue on your hands after wiping.

  3. Step 3

Take the contact you usually put on first out of its case. Place it in your palm, both normally and then inside-out, and rinse it with solution. (usually a multi-purpose storage cleaning solution. I use ReNu).
Check for any impurities. If needed, rinse again until any particles have vanished.

  4. Step 4

Place the contact on your finger, making sure it is not inside out (check bottom curvature, has to be rounded and not sharp). Hold towards light source and check for lint or small pieces of hair which are hard to see because they are thin and nearly transparent. If any are spotted, pull the off from the edge of the contact, gently, then rinse both the contact and your fingers with solution.

  5. Step 5

Once satisfied, put the contact in. A bit of discomfort is normal in the beginning.Roll your eyes and blink a lot. If your eye(s) hurt after two minutes of wearing the contacts, remove the offending contact(s) and resume from step 3, or step 2 if your hands have touched anything since you put the contacts on.

Tips & Warnings
  • keep a travel kit for contact lenses with you wherever you go.

on 8/31/2009 Been wearing contacts for YEARS and I have really really sensitive eyes.... even the all in one cleaners are too much for me.... this is all great advice, but I'm sticking to my old-school saline and overnight disinfectant! 5*s, and recomended :-)

on 7/7/2009 Ahhh... Still don't know if I could stick my finger in my eye... Great pointers for when I get up the nerve to try though. Guess I'll stick with the glasses or be blind. I'll warn ya all when I'm going to be driving. lol ~Mindee
