Anyone who has suffered from an ear infection can tell you that they are never fun. And anytime water gets in your ear it can bring with it bacteria, that combined with ear wax and a moist enclosed area can cause a painful infection. This article contains several suggestions on how to get help for swimmers ear.

  1. Step 1

    Swimmers ear treatment:
    Try mixing equal parts apple cider vinegar and rubbing alcohol. And using a clean dropper put 3-4 drops in each ear to help dry up the water. This is also a good preventive measure to use after swimming. If you don't have any alcohol or apple cider vinegar then white vinegar makes a good substitute.

  2. Step 2

    Dry up the water:
    Applying heat to your ear help with the pain as well as helping to dry up the water. You can use a blow dryer using the warm, not hot setting. Just hold the hair dryer about an arms length from the ear and slowly move it back and forth, taking care to not burn yourself.

  3. Step 3

    Pain relief:
    True taking Advil or Ibuprofen every four to six hours for pain relief.

  4. Step 4

    Ear infection remedy:
    Try putting a few drops of garlic oil in each ear to keep clear up the ear infection and get relief from the itching.

Tips & Warnings
  • Symptoms of swimmers ear include pain, swelling and itching. Always see your doctor if you experience more serious symptoms!
  • You should avoid water sports for 7-10 days while being treated for swimmers ear.
  • If you are prone to chronic swimmers ear or ear infections consider using ear plugs when swimming. This will save you a lot of discomfort in the future.
