The first jigsaw puzzle was produced by an engraver and map maker named John Spilsbury in 1760. Since then, putting jigsaw puzzles together has been a popular and enjoyable pastime for generations of puzzle lovers. The jigsaw puzzle, named because the pieces were cut using a jigsaw, is made by placing an image on cardboard and cutting it into a number of interlocking pieces. Today, thanks to the technological abilities on the Internet, you can make a jigsaw puzzle online with nothing more than the photo of your choice and a Web site. Learn how you can make your own jigsaw puzzles online and even share them with family and friends.

Things You'll Need:

  • Image Jigsaw puzzle Web site
  1. Step 1

    Go to Jigsaw Planet (see resources). At the top of the page click the "Browse" button and browse to the location on your computer that contains the image you want to use make a jigsaw puzzle.

  2. Step 2

    To the right of the photo upload button, type in the name you want for your custom jigsaw puzzle.

  3. Step 3

    Choose "Advanced Settings" if you want to set the difficulty level of your puzzle, set the number of pieces, dictate the shapes of the pieces, and determine the rotation. When you're finished, click "Create," or you can skip "Advanced Settings" and simply click "Create" for a default puzzle. The puzzle will be created for you in rich 3D graphics.

  4. Step 4

    Put your puzzle together and e-mail it to friends and family. The puzzles you create will stay in your account until you delete them, viewable only by you and those you've sent the link to. There is no limit to the number of puzzles you can create.
