Stop Perspiration

Perspiration can be a real problem, especially in the summer months. When the body perspires, it is cooling the body. It is a normal bodily function, but it can be annoying, and in some instances, debilitating. Here are some tips to help stop perspiration.

Instructions

    • 1

Use an antiperspirant such as Odaban or Secret Clinical Strength. These antiperspirants work to clog sweat glands and discourage sweating. Odaban can be applied to hands, feet, face, genitals and other body parts prone to sweating. Apply Odaban or antiperspirants at night after bathing and drying. Apply again in the morning for ultimate protection.

    • 2

Wear sweat guards in your clothing. These removable inserts can be worn in shirts, pants and undergarments to stop sweat stains caused by perspiration. They are also built into clothing and can be purchased online or in clothing stores that sell sweat guards.

    • 3

Practice meditation or deep breathing exercises for relaxation purposes. Sweat often occurs when the body reacts to stress. Learn how to relax to stop perspiration.

    • 4

Do not eat any foods with caffeine. Because caffeine increases metabolism, it may cause increased perspiration. In addition, do not drink coffee, tea, soda or other caffeinated drinks.

    • 5

Try prescription medications. The doctor might prescribe an oral medication such as glycopyrrolate or ditropan for excess perspiration. In addition, they might prescribe topical ointments that contain antibiotics to stop perspiration.

    • 6

Consider iontophoresis to stop perspiration. A slight electrical current is sent through the area of skin prone to perspiration to interrupt production of the sweat glands. Each treatment lasts 10 to 20 minutes, and followup treatment is required to maintain the effects.
