How to Make a Beaded Stick Pin

Beaded stick pins can be a fun and fashionable way to make a statement in your wardrobe. Used for decorating hats, scarves or jackets, these pins are easy to make in any number of ways. A simple beaded stick pin is a colorful project to work on at any time.

1. Assemble your materials. Stick pins come in various sizes and thicknesses. Your beads, crystals and findings must all be able to be threaded onto the stick pin you choose. Verify the hole size in your materials to guarantee this.

2. Lay out your beads. A combination of beads, crystals and findings can add interest to your stick pin. Your top and last bead should be at least 6 mm so they act as "stabilizers" for your other materials. Your beads will cover about one-half of the pin. Again, verify that your materials will allow the pin to pass through the holes.

3. Place a small amount of E6000 epoxy on the pin near the top. Slide your top bead over the pin so that the top of the pin is just below the edge of the opening in the bead. Place more epoxy in the hole to fill it if needed. Allow to set.

4. Place the rest of your beads and findings on the stick pin in the order you had decided. Tilt the pin so that the first bead is resting on the table. Place a small amount of E6000 epoxy on the pin at the bottom of the second-to-last bead. Thread the last bead onto the pin and gently press the bead into the epoxy on the second-to-last bead. Immediately wipe away any excess epoxy that might seep out. Allow to set completely before wearing.

Tips & Warnings

• Consider adding other materials to your pin in addition to the beads, crystals and findings. Use a link finding that has one hole on top and multiple holes on the bottom. This will allow you to dangle beads or charms from your pin for additional interest.
