Instructions

    • 1

Once you've noticed the stain, don't add any water. This will only make the stain worse because lipstick is an oil-based product.

    • 2

Avoid rubbing the stain at all as this will also cause it to spread.

    • 3

Gently pick up any excess pieces of the lipstick out of the rug.

    • 4

Blot out any stains on the carpet with a paper or regular towel.

    • 5

Dab hairspray, petroleum jelly, vegetable oil or other oil-based solvent on the stain and let it sit for about 15 minutes. The oil from the petroleum jelly or hairspray should pick the stain up from the carpet.

    • 6

Scoop up the oil, if possible, and blot the stain gently with either a mixture of ammonia and water or soap and water.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have any doubts, call a carpet cleaning professional to remove the stain. Do not at any point rub the stain farther into the carpet as that will only make it deeper and harder to remove.
