How to Clean a Nikkor Lens

Nikon has been making Nikkor camera lenses for more than 75 years and is one of the world's leading manufacturers of optical glass. Proper care is necessary for keeping your lens in good working order for as long as possible. Fortunately, cleaning a Nikkor lens takes only a few things.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Blower brush Soft, clean cotton cloth or lens tissue Ethyl alcohol (optional)
  1. Step 1

    Squeeze a blower brush and sweep off any dust from the surface of your lens.

  2. Step 2

    Moisten a soft, clean, cotton cloth or lens tissue with lens cleaner or ethyl alcohol.

  3. Step 3

    Gently wipe in a circular motion from the center of the glass to the outer edge to remove smudges. As you clean, avoid touching the electrical contacts with your fingers because it can cause corrosion.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never use thinner or petroleum ether (benzine) to clean the lens.
