Things You'll Need:
- A knife or scraper Vinegar and nail polish remover A cloth Dry cleaning fluid A hairdryer
-
Step 1
Determine the type of surface you are working on. Every surface requires a different type of cleanser to remove it. Household surfaces such as metal or marble are easy to clean, but with plastics you will need to be more delicate.
-
Step 2
Use warm soapy water for hard household surfaces. Scrape or peel the tape back. You can start by peeling back the tape or decal . Get as much of it removed as you can, then use a scraper or knife to remove some of the residue. After you have gotten most of it, soak a rag or sponge in 4 parts warm water, 1 part detergent and a couple of tablespoons of vinegar or ammonia. Scrub the residue vigorously and it should come off after a few minutes. Do not use ammonia on plastic as it will tarnish it.
-
Step 3
For plastics, use dry cleaning fluid. Cover the tape in the fluid and let it soak for a minute. You should be able to remove the decal now. Make sure to wipe off the excess fluid and clean the plastic with soap and water afterward.
-
Step 4
Use a blow dryer. If you have adhesive tape stuck to wallpaper or a surface that cannot get wet, hold a blow dryer at medium heat close to it for three to five minutes. Once it is warm enough, you should be able to peel it off gently.
