Determine if you have a family history of baldness. If so, it is important to pay close attention to any symptoms of baldness that you may be experiencing. It is very common for baldness to run in families. Remember that baldness can affect anyone, however.

Notice if you are losing more hair than usual. Hairbrushes, combs and shower drains are the best places to look. Keep in mind that everybody loses a reasonable amount of hair every time that they take a shower or brush their hair. If the amount of hair that is lost seems extreme, you should begin to worry.

Look in the mirror. Notice if there are any bald patches. Generally, these bald spots can be found at the back of the head, but they may be anywhere. You will also want to notice whether you have a receding hairline.

    • 4

Pay attention to any changes in your hair texture. When someone experiences baldness, he generally begins to notice that his hair feels a lot more brittle and thinner. Also be sure to notice if the hair has a lot more breakage than usual. If you do not use hot styling tools on a regular basis, this can mean that you are experiencing baldness.

    • 5

Visit a primary care physician or a doctor who specializes in balding. He will be able to determine if you are experiencing baldness. It is likely that you will be asked questions about your family history and other factors associated with balding.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are undergoing more stress than usual, it is likely that you may be experiencing balding. Hormonal changes, such as menopause or even pregnancy, are known to trigger baldness. Wearing tight ponytails on a frequent basis may cause balding. Those who have experienced eating disorders or have lost a lot of weight may experience baldness.

  • Hair loss occurs at a rapid speed. Neglecting to seek medical treatment as soon as you detect baldness may cause your entire head to go bald. Be sure to talk to your doctor before deciding to use any products that fight against baldness.
