chigger bites

If you've ever had a chigger bite it's not something that you will soon forget. There is probably no other insect bite that itches as bad as a chigger (jigger).

This is because unlike mosquitoes and ticks the chigger doesn't feed off blood. Instead it injects enzymes into your skin that basically liquefies your skin in that spot. And is then consumed by the larvae. This article goes over several ways on how to get relief from chigger bites.

Instructions

      Hot Shower:
One remedy that I have used, that seems to work well if you find the chigger bites right away. Is to take a hot shower, and then treat the bites with Listerine. Also be sure to take an antihistamine such as Benadryl to help reduce itching.

      Aspirin:
You can also crush an aspirin, adding just a little water in order to form a thick paste. And then apply it to the chigger bite. Some of the ingredients in the aspirin help to neutralize the enzymes. I used this remedy to get some relief late one night when the itching was driving me absolutely crazy.

      Ice:
Applying ice to the area can help to reduce swelling. Then follow this with applying a hydrocortisone cream to the bites to help with the itching. Don't forget to also take an antihistamine.

      Scratching:
Many people swear by scratching the bites until they are bloody and then applying some rubbing alcohol. I'm sure that this works because you are literally scratching the skin with the enzymes off. But you also run the risk of scaring and developing a bad infection from using this method.

Tips & Warnings
