Step 1
A small meal before yard work will probably be enough, especially if you brought two or more bananas with you, or some other food that yields a little energy. Water can be altered with other thirst quenchers during the day. (Do not drink extremely cold liquids. Consuming very cold liquids, may give you a head ache or lesson the amount of liquid you can comfortably drink).
-
Step 2
If the days work cannot be planned so that all work can be done in the shade, try to mix it up, so you're going in and out of shaded areas as you make your rounds. (This will help cool your body temperature a little).
-
Step 3
When using a push mower, try to plan it so you're mostly pulling your mower backwards when going up hill and pushing when going down hill. To avoid steep hill climbing when cutting grass, cut perpendicular to the down hill slope or cut at a 45 degree angle to the down hill slope.

Step 4
When you have more than one kind of yard work to do, change to the other job periodically, if this is possible. This way you can give some rest time to certain muscles, that are used more when doing certain kinds of work.
