How Americans can help protect their safety while traveling to a foreign country.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

It has become increasingly more difficult for Americans to ensure their safety while traveling to or through some foreign countries. Recently, the imprisonment of reporter Lisa Ling’s sister has brought this problem to the forefront. It seems sometimes Americans tend to forget that foreign countries have a whole set of completely different rules and regulations.

In addition, keep in mind “Americans” may bring foreign countries tourist money however; we are basically invaders to their territory. Actually, many of those residing in foreign countries have a natural distaste toward Americans. There are some simple rules to follow while traveling to foreign countries that may help to ensure your safety.

  3. Step 3
    Mexico

First, make sure you have an updated and current passport with you at all times so you can properly identify yourself. In addition, any places known not to be safe, stay away from them. Make sure you receive a list of the countries rules, regulations and enforceable laws. Weather or not we agree with their laws, you must abide by them or face possible consequences. The worst thing in the world is for an American to end up in police custody or prison in a foreign jurisdiction.

  4. Step 4
    Foreign Law Officials.

Moat countries do have laws concerning transporting of drugs, some goods and services, as well as photographing certain places or actions of others. Americans must follow foreign laws; there is no way around it. Americans that may witness injustices abroad must overlook it to a degree at least for their own safety. For example, if an American tourist witness’s mistreatment of others due to foreign government or by the police in another country, trying to openly expose these actions by an American is very dangerous.
