Things You'll Need:
- vacuum cleaner
- carpet cleaner
- steam cleaner
-
Step 1
Vacumming
Vacuum your carpet twice a week. This will help keep dirt from settling to the bottom of the carpet. If you have pets, try to vacumm three times a week especially in the areas where your pet lies on the carpet. -
Step 2
Go Barefoot
No need to walk around with shoes on if you are at home. Leave shoes at the door especially if you have been working in the yard or it is raining outside. When you have guests over, politely ask them to remove their shoes. -
Step 3
Spot Clean
Keep carpet cleaner on hand for little spots that will appear on your carpet. Try to clean up spills immediately before the stain sets in. Follow directions on the bottle. -
Step 4
Steam Clean
Twice a year have your carpet steam cleaned professionaly. However, if you own indoor cats or dogs, it may be wise and cheaper to buy a steam cleaner and do it yourself. With indoor pets, you may want to steam clean once a month. Vacuum well before steam cleaning.

on 6/28/2009 Thanks for these tips. We started taking our shoes off as soon as we walked in the door and that has helped our carpet stay much cleaner.
