Teach Teens to Value Money

With the world being as it is today and some teens getting allot of what that want by doing little or no work, it may hard to teach them the value of money and ways to make money.

Instructions

    • 1

Give your teen an allowance for chores that they have completed. If a teen does chores and earns money, this may give them an idea of how money works in the real world. This may also help them to learn ways to make money.

When your teen asked for something that is expensive, ask them if they have a coupon. Most likely they will not. Teach them about sales and discounts. Eventually they may accept that paying full price for an item is not exactly economical.

    • 3

Open a savings account for them. Have your teen deposit their extra money into the savings account. Do not touch the savings account without the teen asking you to do so, after all this is their hard earned money. Once they see the balance building they just may want to find more ways to earn money for the account.

Encourage your teen to go out and find ways to make money. Perhaps their is a local park that hires for teens to work for the summer. Help them look for a part time job babysitting, mowing grass or shoveling snow.

When the teen wants something small like a pack of gum, ask them if they have money. If they do not then tell them to earn money and that you will bring the teen back to the store to purchase whatever they want with their earned money. Chances are they are not going to want to spend the money they earned on a pack of gum. They may be learning about wasting money as well.
