Certified Pharmacy Technicians are required to obtain at least twenty clock hours of pharmacy technician continuing education to be re-certified. There is currently a maximum of ten hours that can be earned on the job, so how can you get the other ten? Read on to learn how to get additional pharmacy technician continuing education.

Instructions
  1. Step 1
     

    Register for a college course in the area of Life Sciences or Math. Successful completion of this course may satisfy up to fifteen clock hours of the twenty needed for recertification.

  2. Step 2
     

    Once you complete the college course you may be able to obtain the remainder of your hours via online continuing education. This option is not through a college but usually offered through a professional association like the National Pharmacy Technician Association.

  3. Step 3
     

    Lastly, you may wish to seek out pharmacy technician continuing education vendors. These are companies that sell continuing education courses and provide a certification if you successfully fulfill the requirements of the course.

Tips & Warnings
  • Confirm with your certification agency the acceptance of any and all continuing education courses before registering for one. You may find some will not be accepted because they are not accredited or otherwise approved.

on 8/17/2009 Try www.FreeCE.com for tons of programs offered (several per week). They are all approved by ACPE. There are both live and non live programs available. The staff at this site are very helpful, and the site is user friendly and organized!
