Hairbrushes and combs have been used for thousands of years to groom and style hair. It is important to brush your hair every day to remove knots and to keep hair smooth and healthy. Brushing also collects loose hairs and removes dead cells and dirt.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hairbrush or comb
  1. Step 1

Choose the right hairbrush for your hair. Different brushes are best for different hair needs, thus you should choose one that suits your hairstyle. Paddle brushes, which are wide and flat, help to straighten and flatten hair. They are best used on medium to long hair. Round brushes are used to curl and give definition to hair. Combs and oval brushes are best used for short, cropped hair.

  2. Step 2

Brush your hair. Gently run your brush from your scalp to the ends of your hair. Start brushing on one side of your head and make your way to the other side until all of your hair is brushed. If you hair has many knots, do not brush your hair in one long stroke since this can break your hair. Instead, work your brush from your scalp to your chin. Then, brush your hair from your chin to the ends of the hair.

  3. Step 3

Wash your brush at least once a week. First, remove the hair from your brush with your fingers. Then, soak your brush in soapy, lukewarm water for a few minutes. Dry the brush with a small washcloth.

Tips & Warnings
  • To style your hair, try using a thermal brush and a hairdryer. Thermal brushes conduct heat from the hairdryer to straighten or curl your hair. Use a flat thermal brushes to flatten your hair. Use a round thermal brush to curl your hair.
  • Do not brush your hair when it is wet because this can lead to breakage. Instead, use a wide-toothed comb to remove any knots, and wait until your hair is at least partially dry to brush it.
