Weddings create life-long memories. Photographs and the mental images in your guests' minds will keep that special day alive forever. Just as the bride's dress is important to the ceremony, the cake and centerpieces set the tone for the entire reception. Depending upon how many tables you need centerpieces for, this is a project you should be able to complete in less than one day.

  1. How to do Wedding Centerpieces

    • 1

Go shopping. But before you go, you should have a carefully planned out list. It's best to incorporate at least some of the same kinds of flowers as the bride's bouquet and keep it to three colors at most. This will keep a nice uniform look throughout the wedding and ceremony together. You can use fresh flowers, or silk flowers and let guests take them home at the end of the reception as extra favors.

Add some pebbles, rocks, marbles, colored glass pieces, shells or whatever small decorative items you choose to the vase or jars.

Add flowers one at a time making sure the arrangement looks equally beautiful from all angles. Keep the height of your arrangement low enough that it won't interrupt conversations. It should be lower than eye level.

    • 4

Arrange baby's breath, ivy or whatever greenery you are using. Spread it out within the flowers like a backdrop, making sure you don't overpower your main flowers. The flowers should remain the center of attention.

    • 5

As a finishing touch, you can add ribbons or bows around the vase or loosely laid on the table around the flowers. Another option is to sprinkle in petals that match the flowers in the arrangement. You could also add a few votive candles around the flowers, in odd numbers, such as one on each side or three on each side. You can use one of these options or combine them and use all three as long as it's done in a simply elegant way and not too over the top. Remember, the flowers should be the focus.

Tips & Warnings

  • Practice with one arrangement to be sure it comes out the way you want before purchasing supplies for the entire project.

  • If you use candles as well as flowers, be sure the flame of the candle is far enough away from any flowers or other material to avoid fire. You can use candles as the main attraction and decorate with flowers around the candles as well.
