How to Make Floor Cushions

Floor cushions have many uses. If you are inviting a bunch of people over to watch a movie and you don't have enough seating, just make several floor cushions and spread them around the room. Floor cushions are also good for story time with large groups of children. Each child has his own floor cushion and they can all easily sit in a circle. Finally, if you're going to a game and will be sitting on hard bleachers, bring a floor cushion for added comfort.

Things You'll Need

• Durable fabric (such as upholstery fabric) Matching thread Batting or old newspapers A sewing machine A hand-sewing needle Fabric scissors Pins

Instructions

1. Cut out 2 pieces of fabric, each 14 inches by 14 inches.

2. Place one fabric square directly over the other, with the wrong sides of the fabric facing out. Pin in place.

3. Sew all along the edges of the square, using a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Leave an opening of about 4 inches on one side. Using this 4 inch hole, turn the fabric right side out.

4. Stuff the cushion with batting or crumpled up newspaper. Make sure that it is stuffed completely full.

5. Hand sew the 4-inch hole closed.

Tips & Warnings

• Use batting for a more comfortable cushion, use old newspapers for a cheaper cushion.
