Communicate Change Effectively
-
1
Effective communication begins at the very beginning of the company's change. Nip gossip in the bud and share with all parties what is on the horizon. Establishing from the beginning an environment of openness will pay off in the end.
-
2
Do not send communications to the concerned parties through email or interoffice memos. Let the staff feel like they can trust you by delivering updates personally. Personal communications are not only effective but they don't leave room for private interpretation.

3
Keep workers focused on the big picture by introducing a productivity or sales goal. Having something to work toward will help build team spirit during this time of change. Goals will change the team's view point from one of apprehension to one of security in their ability to work as a team.
-
4
Be personable when delivering your message. Knowing the mindset of your audience will help you in speaking to them in a language they understand. This will make all your communications that much more effective.
-
5
Keep visibility high during changes. Resist the urge to hide out from the staff. Walk through offices and work areas regularly. Address everyone as you walk through. This would also be a good time to increase your visibility by hosting an appreciation lunch or some other type of activity.
