Use a dust mop on your tumbled marble regularly to clean up dirt and debris. Avoid using a vacuum cleaner, since it may scratch the surface of the marble.

Remove stains quickly. As soon as a spill is spotted, clean it up to avoid staining. If a stain does appear, use a stone poultice to clean both the marble and grout. A stone poultice may dull the polished finish of marble, so use it on the stained area only, and repolish the area later.

Clean your marble occasionally with a neutral cleaner that does not contain bleach, ammonia or other harsh chemicals. You should be able to find a proper cleaner specifically made for tumbled marble at your local hardware or home improvement store. Dilute the cleaner in a bucket of water and mop the area, changing the mop water frequently so you don't spread grime. You also may want to use an old toothbrush to clean the grout.

For more intensive cleaning, regular strength cleaners may not be enough. To remove built up dirt, grease, wax and film, a heavier cleaner or degreaser may be necessary. Check with your local home improvement store for advice on what product might work best. Then mix the cleaning solution with water and mop the area, letting the solution sit for a while so that the grimy build-up has a chance to soften.

Polish the marble if it begins to dull. Harsh chemicals, heavy build-up and the use of a stone poultice may dull the marble. Polishing it will add shine and remove scratches.

Always read directions thoroughly before applying any type of specialized marble cleaner to your floors and counter tops.
Remember that because of its pores, tumbled marble is different from ceramic tile. Avoid using ceramic tile cleaners since they may damage the marble and leave it looking permanently dirty. Never use bathroom cleaners for tubs, toilets or tiles on your tumbled marble. Never use vinegar, ammonia, bleach or harsh chemicals that contain orange or lemon. These too will leave your marble looking permanently dirty. Even the weakest of these chemicals can damage marble.
