How to Apply Drylok
Drylok is a masonry waterproofer that can be applied directly to concrete. It is recommended for use on retaining, basement and foundation walls, and when applied according to directions, Drylok comes with a 10-year warranty. Available in both white and gray colors, Drylok provides both a moisture seal and neatly painted appearance to bare masonry. In addition, as the manufacturer claims on the product packaging, "Drylok is the easy and manageable way to deal with water seepage problems." The process for applying Drylok is simple enough that the average homeowner should feel confident approaching the project.

Preparation
-
1
Clean the surface to which you intend to apply Drylok. According to the directions on the Drylok can, the "surface must be...free from dirt, dust, grease, oil, form release compound or paint" to ensure proper application.
-
2
Check for any cracks in the surface, and seal them with cement. Smooth cement and allow it to dry before applying Drylok.
-
-
3
Wait for warm, dry weather to apply Drylok as this will increase waterproofing results. The temperature should be at least 50 degrees outside for a successful application.
Application
-
4
Stir Drylok extensively with a paint stir prior to and during use.
-
5
Use a nylon paint brush or roller to liberally apply the first coat of Drylok directly to the concrete surface. Be sure to work back and forth with the brush or roller to fill all pores in the concrete as you apply the Drylok.
-
6
Wait 3 hours to allow the first coat to dry thoroughly. Areas where Drylok was applied more thickly may take longer to dry.
-
7
Apply a second coat of Drylok over the first using either a nylon brush or a roller.
-
8
Allow another 3 hours for the second coat to dry.
