Things You'll Need:
-
Step 1
Like this, except in the water!Paddling out on a longboard can be difficult unless you know a few tricks. As the white wash is about to topple you, grasp your board on each rail and flip it over. This is called "turtling your board" and by doing it, the white wash will pass without turbulence.
-
Step 2
Once you catch a wave you'll want to concentrate on style. Longboarding is a concentration of a fluid smooth style. Execute a bottom turn by leaning into the top of the lip, the turning towards the bottom and making a sharp turn back to the top of a wave. This will help you generate speed to execute a cut back, or begin to walk your board.
-
Step 3
The final step is walking your board. A good cross step to the front of your board is necessary to look cool. Don't shuffle your feet, step on foot over the other. Not only is it cool, but you'll set yourself apart of novice Longboarders who shuffle there feet side to side. To execute a "hang 10" put pressure on the tail of your board. This will slow your board and pull it into the whitewash. At this point you'll want to cross step to the front of your board, and hang your toes over the nose. Its that simple and that hard. All longboard surfing is based around this rad manoeuvres.
