Step 1
Start by picking the date you want to propose. Make sure it is a time that you are both available. This will be an evening proposal.

Go shopping and buy your battery operated tea light candles and the items necessary to fill your picnic basket. Make the meal special but something easy to eat on the beach. Don't forget a yummy beverage!

Arrange for your girlfriend to be near the beach Perhaps she could get a hotel room or hang out in a nearby restaurant. She needs to be close so that you can set up your beach proposal and then you can lead her to it.

Step 4
Bring a friend with you to the beach to help you "set up." This needs to be done at NIGHT! You are going to need a LOT of battery operated tea light candles. Turn them on and arrange them on the sand (away from the water) to spell out the words "WILL YOU MARRY ME?" Don't make the letters too big or else it will be hard for her to read.

Next to the tea light message, lay a big blanket on the sand and set your picnic basket on top.

Now make your friend guard the area on the beach with your picnic and the candles. Go get your girlfriend.

Tell her to cover her eyes when you get near the beach, and guide her down the sand. Shoo your friend away once you get close so he doesn't get in the way of your proposal. He can go home now. Now it is time for you and your girlfriend to be alone.

Before you tell her to uncover her eyes, tell her how much you love her and how much she means to you. Tell her there is something that you want to show her, then tell her she can look. When she sees the candles, get down on one knee, kiss her hand, and ask her if she would make you the happiest man in the world by becoming your wife.
