How to Keep Celery Fresh for Weeks Without Using Tin Foil

One of my favorite snacks is celery with blue cheese or ranch dressing. My boyfriend eats a lot of it too. I used to cut it up and store it in a zip lock baggie or aluminum foil, but it still doesn't last that long. If you use this method, you will find that you can literally store it in the fridge for a couple of weeks, if not more.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Celery
  • Knife
  • Air Tight Storage Container
  • Water
  1. Step 1

    Clean and rinse your celery..Seperate the stalks and rinse well under running water so as to remove all of the dirt.

  2. Step 2

    Trim and cut the celery to the desired size. Cut off the bottom edge and slice off the top sections with the leaves. Since I dip it into blue cheese dressing, I like to store it in ready to eat sized pieces. First, I cut it in half so that I have two sections that are about 6 inches long and then slice each half lengthwise into two or three long skinny pieces.

  3. Step 3

    Place into an air tight storage container big enough to hold the celery. Fill the container with enough cold water to cover the celery and store in the fridge. You will find that submerging it in the water and keeping it chilled will keep it crisp and crunchy for weeks at a time.

Tips & Warnings
  • This comes in handy when you need just a few pieces at a time also. Say you are making tuna salad and only need a few pieces. Just take some from the container and use as needed.
