Hybrid vehicles are preferred because they have extremely good gas mileage, and because they are less harmful to the environment than regular cars. Although there are several types of hybrid vehicles in existence, gasoline-electric hybrid cars are what we will refer to in this article. Follow these directions if you would like to learn how to compare hybrid vehicles.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    LOOK AT MPG

When comparing hybrid vehicles, the first thing you are going to want to do is look at how many miles the car will get per gallon. It is best to look at the combination mpg (highway & city) for hybrid vehicles. Current miles per gallon for hybrid cars can range from 31 mpg to around 55 mpg.

  2. Step 2

DO NOT BE DETERRED BY THE COST

Contrary to popular belief, hybrid vehicles will not be economical at first glance, so do not be shocked to find that they will not be the least expensive cars on the lot. Realize that when considering hybrid cars, you will save more money over time, rather than right up front. Hybrid car costs usually start in the high $19k range - although this is not an exorbitantly high cost for a car, you will find that some economy new car models can start in the low $11k range.

  3. Step 3

FOCUS ON THE GREEN ASPECTS OF PURCHASING A HYBRID VEHICLE

Reduced air pollution emissions, due to lower fuel consumption, leads to improved human health with regard to respiratory problems and other illnesses. Instead of being a little worried about the higher up-front cost, you should be proud of yourself for doing your part to save the environment.

The Toyota Prius and Honda Insight are the current highest selling hybrid vehicles. Click on the appropriate links below to check out the new designs. Good luck on your search for hybrid cars.
