How to Make a Fountain

A fountain creates a relaxing environment with both sound and sight. You can make your own fountain, either indoor or outdoor, from any container you like.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a vessel. Anything that can hold water can be a fountain. Be creative.

  2. Step 2

Buy a bubbler from the hardware store. A bubble will cost about $25. Make sure you get the right size bubbler for your container. Also, get the right bubbler for whether you want a gentle bubble or a spouting fountain.

  3. Step 3

While you are at the hardware store, pick up a sink stopper, a toilet flush valve disk, and a tube of caulk all for about $5.

  4. Step 4

Drill a hole in the bottom of the vessel. Make sure you use the proper drill bit for the material and that the hole is big enough for the cord to the bubbler to slide through.

  5. Step 5

Cut a slit half way into the sink stopper and toilet flush valve disk. Then slide the bubble cord into them.

  6. Step 6

Slide the bubbler tube through the hole in the vessel with the stoppers in the inside of the vessel. It doesn’t matter which stopper is above the other.

  7. Step 7

Put caulk around the bottom stopper and use it to plug the hole. Put the second stopper on top of the first and secure with more caulk around the edges. You want to create a water-tight seal so that the fountain does not leak.

  8. Step 8

Let the caulk dry. This will take at least 30 minutes.

  9. Step 9

Sit the bubbler level in the bottom of the vessel. If the bottom is uneven making the bubbler crooked, then use gravel or something else to level out the bubbler. Fill the fountain with water and plug in the bubbler.

on 7/2/2009 Thank you for these clear instructions. Once the fountain is assembled, place it in the Feng Shui Abundance life area (back left corner of your home or space) to encourage growth.
