Step 1
First, when you start out in the game, you will only have certain options available to you. As you level up in Farm Town, you will have the chance to buy more buildings, purchase different seeds and flowers to plant, and make a beautiful farm with ponds, fences and a huge mansion! So before you can get too far, you need to get your first few levels done. This can be done by simply plowing, planting, harvesting and selling your crops in Farm Town's marketplace. Plowing gives you 1 XP and planting seeds gets you 2 XP.

Step 2
Than, make a visit your neighbor's farms. Get all your friends playing Farm Town so that you can add them as neighbors and visit their farms. When you visit their farms, you have the option to help them out, either by watering their crops, raking their leaves, or cleaning up after tornado damage. By helping your neighbors, you will earn 6 XP every time you help. With 10 friends and neighbors in Farm Town, you could easily earn 60 XP points every day just by making a quick visit to their homesteads.

Step 3
Next, you will find that building things can get you experience points. So say you buy a fence, you will earn 6 XP points. Certain items give you up to 1,000 XP points, such as the large pond and the farm house, but will definitely cost you some big bucks. But depending on your level, sometimes these can help you level up one entire level just by, say, building a barn.
Here is the breakdown for your larger XP earners for Farm Town:
Waterwell: 203 XP points
Silo: 302 XP points
Windmill: 402 XP points
Barn: 601 XP points
Greenhouse: 700 XP points
Small House: 701 XP points
Small Pond: 800 XP points
Farm House: 1000 XP points
Big Pond: 1000 XP points -
Step 4
As you level up in Farm Town, you will be able to enlarge your farm. You can upgrade your "footage" in Farm Town up until level 25, when you upgrade to a 24x24 sized lot. This is the largest (at the time of writing this, anyway) that you can make your lot in Farm Town. But not only are you creating more space to plant and build, you are giving yourself some priceless XP points.
Here is the breakdown for XP points you can earn when upgrading your lot:
14 x 14: 203 XP
16 x 16: 251 XP
18 x 18: 302 XP
20 x 20: 352 XP
22 x 22: 402 XP
24 x 24: 800 XP
