How to Display Your Spices with A Creative Touch
Several years ago, I decided to display my spices on the counter top instead of a near-by cabinet so that they would be more accessible while cooking. I looked many places, but couldn't find just what I wanted or had in mind. Then one day, I was shopping at Target, and had a sudden idea flash as I was looking for a display shelf for a few curios that I had wanted to display. This was the perfect item to display my spices and solve my needs. Here are steps that will help you find and discover a creative way in which to display your spices. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure the space that you have in mind for displaying your spices on your counter top. Don't forget to not only measure the width, but the height will also be an important factor. If you have wall space near the area you want the spices to be displayed, measure that also, as that could be an option for you as well.

Take note of your décor in the room, refreshing your mind about the accent colors you are using, types of woods and style of décor. This memory refresher will help in your selection process. If you want your spice rack to coordinate with an accent color that you are currently using, take an item with you when you go shopping, such as a placemat or other item that has that color in it.

Go to your favorite home goods store (I found mine at Target), or search online for the area that would have choices of curio display or small display shelves. Don't forget to check out the bathroom display pieces also. There are usually many choices available in different colors, sizes and styles, from Contemporary to more Traditional. Keep in mind that most of the shelves that you find could be set directly on your counter top, as well as be hung nearby if that is a possibility. The picture of the display shown here would be great if you have French Country decor. I like the idea of the doors which would keep your spices fresher.

While looking at the options that are available, evaluate your needs for the spices that you readily use. Choose the size and design, according to your needs. Do you need different heights of shelves, how many spices will you want to display, etc. The picture shown here would be a great one if you prefer more of a Traditional style and for a larger space if you have it. It could also be set on a counter top against the wall if you have the space.

Try to think "outside of the box" when browsing your selections. You may find the perfect size and style, but the color is not red, black or whatever your favorite accent color is. If you are 'reality' shopping, this is where your color sample comes in handy. After having found just the right display piece, go to the paint department next and choose the perfect color to paint it with. This idea shown here would be great if you use fewer spices. Also, cooking utensils or hot pads could be hung on the hooks.
