-
Step 1
Create a budget for your skating party. If you have $100 to spend, decide how much will go to location, invitations, decorations, refreshments, activities and favors.
-
Step 2
Decide on a location. There are three good locations for a skating party: a local skating rink, a park or your driveway.
-
Step 3
If you decide to have your party at a skating rink, call and ask if they have birthday party specials. Many rinks will have party plans to choose from. Some will even include invitations, favors and refreshments.
-
Step 4
If you want to throw the party at your home, you can set up an area for the children to skate. You can turn a double car garage into a fun “skating rink” for a small group of children. Or use your driveway or go to a local park and use a tennis or basketball court. If you do decide to plan it outdoors, be sure to have a back-up plan in case of rain.
-
Step 5
Decorations for this party are relatively easy. Keep it simple with some streamers, a birthday banner and balloons. Skates will be provided at a rink party, if you have the party at home ask each child to bring a pair of skates.
-
Step 6
Decide on the date and time to hold your skating party and if you want to have an additional theme. A few ideas include:
80’s skating party
Tropical skating party
Barbie skating party
Creating a more specific theme will help tie the party together. -
Step 7
Create a guest list with your child. Decide how many people he can invite and make the list together. Purchase or make invitations related to your theme. Make out the invitations and mail them 4-6 weeks before the party date.
-
Step 8
Decide on the refreshments you will serve. You can do cake and ice cream or other snacks. Ideas include: popcorn, hot dogs, nachos, cupcakes, soda, juice, bottled water, etc.
-
Step 9
Decide on some fun group activities to do during your skating party. A few activity ideas: a game of limbo on skates or a “lesson” on skating backwards and doing tricks. The rest of the party will be free skating time.
-
Step 10
Make a favor to give to each child at the end of the skating party. Tying the favor into your theme is cute. Some ideas include: a skate bag filled with small goodies, a CD of songs that were played at the party or a pair of skates to take home.
