Relationships, break-ups and lovesickness can lead to a lot of emotional upheavals in our lives. Dealing with the loss of someone from a relationship is a lot like losing someone to death. Regardless of the reason for the break-up, learning how to handle lovesickness will make the process less painful.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Cry, yell or scream in private. Don't hold your feelings back. Get your feelings out in non-destructive ways. Venting in private will enable you to face your feelings and move through this part of lovesickness.

  2. Step 2

Call family members and friends. Talk to someone you trust on the phone and even visit them. Keeping in contact with others will enable you to move through lovesickness and not become isolated.

  3. Step 3

Start a journal. Write down your feelings. You can write down memories, pleasant times, in addition to working through the pain of lovesickness. Focus on one positive thing that happened in your daily life during this journey.

  4. Step 4

Start a brand new hobby or rejuvenate your interest in an old hobby. Fill your hours during lovesickness with fun activities that make you feel more alive and less prone to focusing on your pain.

  5. Step 5

Enjoy an at-home spa treatment. You deserve happiness and to be treated special. You don't have to depend on someone else to meet this need. Take the time to spoil yourself.

  6. Step 6

Eat nutritiously and exercise daily. You'll keep your body healthy and renew your mental and emotional energy as well. Daily walks are great to enjoy nature and get out of the house while you handle lovesickness.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are feeling abnormally depressed and unable to function after a break-up, you may need to seek professional help.
