Step 1
The first step is to determine if your Polished Aluminum Diamond Plate has any type of protective coating. Many of the coatings used are a thin plastic like material that can be stripped off with the use of harsh cleaners. Always try a small hidden test area with any cleaner.
-
Step 2
Wash your Polished Aluminum Diamond Plate with a mild detergent such as one used for dishwashing or cars with a stiff scrub brush. This will loosen surface dirt and let you get a good look at the surface. If your Polished Aluminum Diamond Plate surface looks good at this point, dry completely with a soft cloth and apply an aluminum wax such as Mothers made for aluminum car rims.
-
Step 3
If the stains are a little deeper than just a plain old bath try vinegar and a good scrub brush. Be prepared to put some muscle into it. Rinse with plain water and dry completely then wax.
-
Step 4
There are also some commercial products such as NevrDull that are somewhat abrasive and can leave fine surface scratching so use these with care. These products are available from truck supply stores, catalogs and online.
-
Step 5
The highest level of Do-It-Yourself cleaning is nitric acid. Use nitric acid with great care. Make sure to wear eye protection, gloves and use in a well ventilated are. Protect the ground underneath your cleaning project with either think cardboard or park on a grassy or stone area. Nitric acid will eat away at cement.
