Things You'll Need:
- Scrap paper Seeds Aluminum pan Scissors Staples Screening material Stapler Blender Sponge Plastic tub Towel
-
Step 1
Cut the bottom from a disposable aluminum pan, and discard the bottom. Cut a piece of screen material slightly larger than the pan and staple it to the rim to make the paper screen.
-
Step 2
Tear scrap paper into 1-by-1 inch squares. Use printer paper, construction paper, newsprint or any other uncoated papers.
-
Step 3
Fill a blender half full of paper scraps, then fill the remainder with hot water. Blend on medium speed for approximately one minute, or until the paper is a thick, paste-like consistency.
-
Step 4
Fill a plastic tub that is large enough to lay your screen into. Fill the tub half-full with water and pour three blender loads of the mixture into the tub. Add two or three envelopes of the seeds of your choice to this mixture and stir well.
-
Step 5
Slip the screen into the tub, just under the surface of the pulp mixture. Gently move it from side to side to evenly disperse the pulp on top of the screen. The thicker the pulp, the thicker the paper.
-
Step 6
Lift the frame from the tub, holding it flat, and allow the excess water to drain. Carefully flip it upside down onto a towel or dishcloth. Press a sponge against the screen to absorb any excess water and dislodge the paper onto the towel.
-
Step 7
Lay a second towel on top of the paper to absorb the rest of the moisture. Allow the paper to dry overnight before using. Speed up the drying process by hanging the paper from a clothesline.
-
Step 8
Tear the paper into 3-to-4 inch strips to plant it. Sow the strips directly into the ground.
