Windows Vista Business lacks some of the entertainment options of other Vista editions, but it comes with more productivity features, including hardware failure protection, Windows Fax and Scan, and Remote Access. You can upgrade to Windows Vista Business from Windows XP Pro, Windows XP Home or Windows 2000.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check to make sure your PC is compatible with Windows Vista Business. It will require 1 GB system memory, 60 GB hard-drive space, Direct X9 graphics support and a 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor.

  2. Step 2

Purchase the Windows Vista Upgrade. You can download the upgrade or order the DVD.

  3. Step 3

Insert the DVD-ROM or execute the downloaded installation program to begin the upgrade.

  4. Step 4

Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the Vista Business upgrade.

  5. Step 5

If upgrading from XP, your basic settings and files should remain intact.

Tips & Warnings
  • Backup all your important files. Upgrading to a new operating system is a large undertaking and things can go wrong. Make sure all your important files are saved.
  • The only way to upgrade from Windows Vista Home or Premium to Business is to uninstall and format your hard drive, then install Windows Vista Business from a DVD-ROM.
