  1. Removing Perfume from Skin and Clothes

    • 1

If you accidentally overdose on perfume, should saturate a cotton ball or cotton swab with rubbing alcohol and lightly rub your skin where you sprayed the perfume. Witch hazel pads work as well. Just use whatever you have on hand. In a pinch, white vinegar can be used as well. Don't worry about the vinegar smell. When it dries, the smell fades away. Allow the area to dry.

    • 2

If the offending odor is on clothes that can be washed, and you have time to wash them before wearing, add 1/2 cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle of the laundry to remove any lingering perfume smells. Use an extra dryer sheet as well. The vinegar odor will not remain on the clothes, but it will take the stale perfume away as well. Beyond that, hit the dry cleaners.

    • 3

If the clothes cannot be machine washed, or you are simply short on time, hang the garment and use a spray bottle to lightly mist it with the white vinegar. As the vinegar dries it will take the perfume odor with it. If you have a steam iron, use it to apply heat and moisture to your clothes.

    • 4

If you are already out the door when you notice you overdoaed on perfume, try to walk to your destination rather than ride in the car. If you can't walk, roll down the windows. If you arrive a few minutes early, take a stroll along the block, allowing the perfume to evaporate a bit.

Tips & Warnings

  • It is possible to become "immune" to a particular scent. Just because the scent doesn't smell strong to you, doesn't mean that it isn't overpowering your office-mates and dinner guests. Never apply more perfume than you did the first few times you wore it. If you aren't sure if your perfume is too strong, ask a friend or co-worker for their opinion. Presumably, they aren't so familiar with your preferred perfume to be immune to it as well.

  • On any product you use from white vinegar to witch hazel pads, read the labels first, and then test a small, unnoticeable swatch of the garment before spraying the entire piece.
