Watermark a Photograph

When you have a photo you want to upload online or give to someone for showing offline, you want to place a watermark on the photo to protect the copyright, which belongs to you. You do not want anyone to use or claim this photo as his own. You can watermark a photograph without buying any additional software by using Window's Paint software that comes with your computer. It is easy to use and free.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Window's Paint by clicking on the "Start" button in the left-hand bottom corner. After the box opens, move the mouse to "Accessories," and another box will open. Move the mouse over the next box and click on "Paint."

    • 2

Look at the software that opens. You will see a blank white page. Move your mouse to "File" and click. From the drop-down window, choose "Open" to choose a picture to add a watermark to. Choose the picture; it replaces the blank white screen.

    • 3

Click on the "Text" function. This will be the "A" on the toolbar. Choose the place on your picture where you want to draw the text box. Click the mouse and hold down and move the cursor to the side and down to make a box to type in.

    • 4

Type your information into the box. You can change the text size, font or appearance by using the text toolbar that opened at the bottom of the picture.

    • 5

Change the color of the text by using the color bar at the bottom of the window. You can double-click any color to define the color and open a color editing window.

    • 6

Make the text box transparent by clicking the "Transparent" box (see photo). The default is a solid color box (white), which you get by clicking on the box directly above the "Transparent" box.

    • 7

Save the picture to a folder on your computer when you are done. It will be ready to post or hand out with a watermark on it.
