3. Depending on the size of your family, or whether you have roommates or like to entertain, you will need to make sure you purchase a sufficient amount of seating.

Picking a Color Palette

1. You can use these accent colors in pillows, rugs, vases and artwork. Also, a small piece of furniture could be in the accent color of your choice, just as long as it is small and understated.

2. When you go to the store to pick out some chic pieces for your home, you are going to feel flustered. There will be so many options and items to choose from that it'll make your head spin. Follow these guidelines to make sure you pick chic, modern pieces that will truly make your home contemporary.

   The couch should be your main priority. A truly chic couch sits low to the floor and is usually long or short in length. You can buy a chaise, love seat, ottoman or other units for the couch so you can rearrange the pieces. If you are finding furniture for the bedroom, keep in mind that a chic bed is either very low to the ground, or unusually high up.

   Other furniture you might consider is a coffee table, side table, dining room table and bookshelf. Some of these pieces may not serve its logical purpose, but are merely to add to the ambiance of the room. Functionality is not your main priority when buying chic furniture. Your focus should be simplicity.

   Make sure you pick out some cool artwork that pops. This can be a colorful painting, a sculpture or even a stack of bright, playful books on your coffee table.
