Wedding Wishing Well

If your chosen ceremony or reception location includes a well, a great way to incorporate it into your wedding is to create a wedding-themed wishing well. You can use the wishing well as an alternative to a guest book and allow guests to write wishes on cards for you and your partner. A fun addition is to include a jar of pennies for guests to also make a wish for themselves, as throwing a penny into a well and making a wish is an old wives tale to bring good luck to the coin tosser.

Instructions

  1. Decorating a Wishing Well

    • 1

Purchase various jars to hold the pennies and wish cards. The jars can be any type of material, shape or size--whatever fits with your wedding theme.

    • 2

Decorate the jars with ribbon to match your selected wedding colors. The decorations do not to be elaborate and a simple ribbon tied in a bow looks clean and classy.

    • 3

Choose a flower arrangement to put on the well. If the well bucket is out of the water, a creative idea is to set the flowers into the bucket to avoid needing an additional vase or basket.

    • 4

Decorate the wish cards on one side, if desired. One idea would be to write or print words like "love" or "wish" on each card. One side of the card must be blank so guests have a place to write their wishes.

    • 5

Decorate the well by wrapping tulle and ribbons around the well. If the well is covered, try wrapping the tulle and colored ribbon around the poles supporting the roof and tying the tulle into a bow at the top of the pole.

    • 6

Arrange the jars, pennies, pens and wish cards on the well for guests to use on your wedding day.

Tips & Warnings

  • If using wedding programs, it is a good idea to state that there is a wishing well either at the ceremony or reception location and for guests to please visit it at their leisure to make a wish for the new couple. Be sure to assign someone the task of collecting the cards, jars and flowers after the wedding if you are off on your honeymoon directly from the reception.
