How to Block Popups Using a Web Browser

It seems like pop-up ads have been the bane of Internet users' existences since the second or third day after the Internet was created. Web companies have been cracking down on pop-up ads for a while now, and happily, it's rare to see a browser debut these days without a built-in pop-up blocker attached. Set them up properly, and with a little luck, pop-ups will soon be a thing of your past.

Tips & Warnings
  • Usually, a proliferation of pop-up ads means your computer system is infected with a lot of spyware and adware. Pop-up blockers will prevent most of the ads from appearing, but it won't stop the malicious software from trying to send them to you and slowing down your computer. Download the free programs Ad-Aware and SpyBot (see Resources) to rid your computer of the spyware and adware; you will probably see a dramatic decrease in pop-up ads, regardless of whether your browser's pop-up blocker is turned on.
